Tolhuistuin

Tolhuistuin is a cultural sanctuary on the IJ in Amsterdam-Noord. With18,000 square meters of space for art and culture.
We are convinced of the imaginative and transformative power of art and culture. Our cultural programming is about how we want to live together and what future we want. Driven by curiosity and creativity. As a former Shell research center, Tolhuistuin was the beating heart of the fossil industry for decades. A place for inventors and technicians. Now we use this place as a catalyst for change towards a sustainable and just society.
We invite everyone to contribute and participate.
From intimate theater performances to large-scale festivals. From outdoor exhibitions to controversial talks. From a low-threshold village hall to a steaming club night. From a creative space for new talent to a hip-hop dance school. From a breeding ground for new ideas to a place to a place to recharge with new energy. Every year we organize around a thousand large and small cultural activities that contribute to democracy, sustainability and equal opportunities. By and for the city, and Noord in particular.
