Felix Meritis

Felix Meritis is a cultural centre of the future in the making, a public and safe meeting place where contemporary and polyphonic stories are shared with a wide audience. With the programmes of Felix Meritis we loosen what is stuck, we question the status quo, we put the audience on a different track and we let them look at the world around us through a different lens. Felix is ​​always looking for hidden stories that the legacy of our colonial history contains – stories that we do not know, but that certainly resonate in our society.

Which perspectives have been erased from historiography? Which stories should we rewrite?

Felix Meritis, Latin for ‘happy through merits’, is a centuries-old Amsterdam house for the future. Since its foundation in the eighteenth century, social issues have been investigated here in the domains of science, art and entrepreneurship – and digital culture has now been added. It is one of the most iconic and monumental buildings on the Amsterdam canals and after a four-year renovation, the monumental building reopened in 2021, to work with an inclusive and committed team and a sharpened programming.

As a cultural center of the future, Felix's programming reflects a contemporary and polyphonic view of the stories it shares with a wide audience.
